Requiem for the Generals

It would have been nice leading the parade with the crowds cheering, confetti falling all around. People smiling. People happy. People wanting your autograph.
A job well done. A challenge met. Brave men. Courage. Honor. Decency.

But no, you're on the talk shows, shifting nervously in your chair, talking about needing five more years and 500,000 more men. Making excuses. Trying to shift the blame.

Talking about it as if your Presdient was going to win this election, and the next election, and the election after that.

It seems you think the "will of the people," for war is a see-through thin sickening parady of pathetic public relations; rather than real hearts and real minds and a reason so strong people can't be held back.

But all you get is another ribbon. Yea...just another ribbon with less importance in the minds of most, less important than hearing about an interior decorator setting up a fake potted plant in an office somewhere far away; an office no one wants to go to.
